Everything Crossed

This started out as a place for me to write about our adventures while we lived in the Middle East and travelled around a few other places.  We have since returned to Australia to live (much to my dismay) as my husband (Mr H) got a job offer back home and had been wanting to return home for a while.

Living in the Middle East can really get under your skin after a while - in a good and bad way.  As with most places there are pros and cons of living there.  The major con for us was that I could not get a job in the same country as Mr H  (Qatar) so I moved to Saudi Arabia to work (I had worked there before so knew what I was in for), we did this for 2.5years.  How we kept our relationship alive was me travelling back to Qatar every two weeks or so.  And it worked really well.

We have now been home in Australia for one year - and I have such itchy feet - I want to go back.  And yes I would go back to Saudi Arabia - there is something about the place that I like, and of course there are many  things that I don't like.  So all I have to do now is talk Mr H into it.

The main reason for this is my current job.  I am a nurse and I work in the community, I have been doing this job for 10 months and it started out  working four days a week and it was so busy.  But something is going on (don't know what and neither does anyone else) but my workload has decreased -  for instance tomorrow I am visiting one patient.  I have gone from visiting in a fortnight sometimes 60 patients to maybe 20.

On the Gold Coast there are not that many nurse jobs around. I lived away from Mr H for nearly three years and we came home to be together so I don't want to work weekends or night duty - so I guess my options are limited - and these are the jobs that everyone wants.  Or maybe I should just change my career - but to what I don't know....

But on the upside Mr H has started applying for jobs in the Middle East - I have everything crossed.  At least I know he is open to the idea - even though he loves his job at the moment.  But moving overseas again is good for his career progression.

You might be questioning my sanity - me wanting to live in one big sandpit where every little crevice is constantly filled with sand (I always used to say that I had a small sand dune forming in my lungs), where you don't see blue skies on a regular basis and the temperatures often exceed 45 degrees C especially since we live in this beautiful country called Australia - well maybe I am a little insane LOL....

Do you think I'm mad????
Have you changed your career late in life?????

Watch this space.....

Its Been A Long Time

Wow I know its been a long time since I have posted on this blog.  Its supposed to be all about our travels - but we have not been any where since June last year.  But I guess there is no reason why I can't blog about just anything that is remotely interesting.

I have started the new year with a new outlook and have decided to get healthy and motivated.  On January 2nd I commenced on what was going be a 30 day juice fast.  I decided this after watching the movie Fat Sick and Nearly Dead - it really is a very inspiring movie.  Its about an Australian - Joe Cross who went to America to do a 60 day juice fast and lost an astonishing amount of weight - and he has kept it off also.

I started out strong then got half way through week two and decided that I needed to add some food into my diet - so I have been juicing and adding raw foods and small amounts of cooked protein into my diet.  I am now up to Day 24 and have lost weight - so far 3.4kgs which I am really happy about, considering this time last year I was 9kgs heavier.

I am feeling good - well not yesterday.  But overall feel much happier, much lighter and feel like I am doing my body a great favour.  The interesting thing is if I have any processed food or chocolate I feel awful, and the sugar just puts me on a real high.

To make myself accountable for the food that I put into my mouth I created another blog - so I could be honest with myself and share my journey with others.  I have been amazed at the amount of people who have read the blog and are being encouraged to change their eating habits because of what I am doing.  So I am really grateful for this.

I have not had any caffiene, no bad fats, only a small amount of chocolate (which made me feel terrible), no alcohol in the 24 days.  I have sat here and watched my other half eat chocolate, bacon and eggs, takeaways and drink alcohol - so I think I have done really well.

If you want to check out my blog please do so at:  http://ditchingthesugar.blogspot.com.au  - this is where I spend most of my time these days.

So happy reading.

Gold Coast 600

We were lucky enough to be given a couple of corporate box tickets to the V8 Supercars at the Gold Coast.

I have only added a few of the photos that we took as I have added many over the last couple of years of the V8's.

Getting ready for the Team Vodafone Pit Stop

The corporate box that we were in was right above the Vodafone Garage - how lucky is that.  It sure gave us a new perspective on the race.

May favourite Craig Lowndes

Pit Lane a hive of activity

Awesome birds eye view of what goes on at a pit stop.
