Arabic Dinner

We all went out for dinner to a traditional Arabic restaurant - it was the best meal I have had since I have been here thats for sure.

The building resembles a fort and its set outside - but undercover, so you would not go there when the weather is hot.

The "Family Section" - families and women can only visit on a Friday.

You sit on the floor and eat - just like the locals. We did not have to eat with our hands we were given the luxury of cutlery.

Pouring Arabic Coffee. (Don't fancy it myself)

This does not look like much food at all but believe me this was a tonne of food - it easily could have fed at least ten people. It did not look like we had even touched the food.
And yes there was camel - it was yum!!!

Eid Celebrations

Well Ramadan is over for another year and the Eid celebrations begun for a week - Eid is like our christmas. It is a time to throw out the old and buy all new stuff - like clothes!!!
(Time to be heading to the Princess Souq to maybe grab a bargain or two - this is where they take all their clothes etc...

These photos I hijacked from a friend - they are Eid celebrations taking place in "Chop Chop" Square (where the beheadings/hand chopping take place - yes it does still happen)

They are great pictures as its quite unusual to see this much colour - everything here is so boring and plain. But as you can see not a woman in site - this was a men only celebration.

See no woman!!!

This is the traditional Saudi dress for men - they all wear it.

Hash - September 11, 2009 - Al Amariyah

Well I decided to brave the heat again and go walking in the desert. It was not nearly as hot as the first time - only 37c at about 6pm.

This time I did what they call the long walk and it was great - really enjoyed it.

New members of the Hash group about to be gunged.

You can just make out the cars in the distance

A Few More Randoms of Saudi Buildings

Just a few random photos of the Kingdom Tower.

Side on view

The main entrance - but you get dropped off at the front door.

At night time the lights in the curve change colour

A very fancy looking hospital - all the private hospitals look like this.

Weekend in Qatar

Last weekend I had a "get out of jail free" card so I went to Qatar for the weekend to see my darling Nicholas xx

It was Ramadan (so shops are closed all day) and really hot and humid so there was not too much to do (ho hum!!) but Nick has just bought a new camera so we went out and took some pics with it.

(If you click on the images they come up larger)

I hate having my photo taken but just for Nick I let him take a couple of me (for the sole purpose of testing out the new camera) This is taken at an Indian restaurant.

The photographer himself.

Driving into "The Pearl" (similar to The Palm in dubai)

The big one is mine!!

Down these corridors are all designer stores - a pair of jeans will set you back approx $1000 AUD.

Inside the shopping areas

The new Rolls Royce Showroom has just opened up - it is part of Nicks company so we went to have a look - these cars are so beautiful..... and $$$$$

I love this one

They have window displays like this and yet they are cracking down on what the expats are wearing in Qatar.

Had to take this picture - this building reminds me of something ....mmmmm wonder what???

It was so nice to see water.
